Challenge
Challenge
Nationwide, Almost 70% of adults with disabilities still live at home with their parents because of a lack of supportive, affordable housing in the community and over 65% of individuals with developmental disabilities live in unsustainable housing. In many states, Autistic adults are not given the appropriate supports and access to the resources needed that would enable them to live independently. Over 7 million individuals with developmental disabilities worry daily about housing. It’s a national crisis that most are unaware of and receives little public funding or community attention.
Solution
RNI Residential Services seeks to provide solutions that address:
Affordability People with disabilities, especially those who rely on fixed income like SSI or are unable to work full time, cannot afford housing. Individuals are priced out of both affordable and market rate housing. The need only increases as more people have disabilities, including Autism, and housing becomes more expensive.
Accessibility in how buildings are physically designed for people’s mobility, cognitive, and sensory disabilities, and accompanying full range of support needs. Locations often isolate people from jobs, community, and services.
Inclusivity Communities segregate people based on ability, income, or background. This leads to communities that are segregated or isolated and not operated to facilitate connection and support in the community alongside people without disabilities.
